    P-R-A-I-S-E

Encouraging kids and giving them reinforcement is very useful. I always appreciate and praise my 3 year old son for desirable behavior. It is really good and children learn the way to get that praise again.

    Obstacle Courses

Having active boys with energy to burn, I find when I take them to the park and engage in our favourite game - Obstacle Courses - they return home calm and refreshed, with tension released. Obstacle course involves deciding a course over, under and around the play equipment. It engages them physically and also mentally as they need to remember the order. When they are older they enjoy the added challenge of being timed and then trying to bet their time.

Play with your children; teach them to catch a ball etc. Then mix it up with two balls and get them throwing and catching the two balls. This is great for left and right brain development but most of all is cheep good fun.

I love to join my kids in video active games on their WII console like Dance Revolution and Wii Fit! It is a great way to connect with my kids in both a verbal and physical way. Not only are they challenged to beat me, but I am benefited by getting a good workout (the fun way!)

My grandchildren come to me quite a lot and since I have been on a strict diet and exercise I get them involved in the preparing of my food which they eat also and an exercise routine which includes riding an exercise bike they pretend they are one too and also we dance alot and do a lot of bending and stretching. They think they are just having fun with grandma.

I find that going out walking every day since my baby was born (taking him in the pram) has helped me out!

Cycle, whether it's after dinner, to get something from the shops or for no purpose. It's great to be active and teach road awareness at the same time!

Join a gym that provides children's activities then you are guaranteed to get 'your time' to enjoy your workout each day without juggling sitters.

Who says children's DVDs are just for the kids? Have fun and get fit by dancing to DVDs such as those by the Wiggles, Hi Five and Bindi. Smiles guaranteed!

Make use of the outdoors. Your local council may have free or low-cost fitness activities in your community. Otherwise, take advantage of local walking tracks or just go for a walk around your local street. You and your children can both be fit and street-smart.
