Local Community Partnership

Caring for a child can be tough and very challenging. While every child is a joy to their parents, families of children with a disability find simple everyday living more difficult. Financial assistance, respite care - time out and community support can make a world of difference.

The Westfield Community Program was launched in early 2008 to address these needs in our local communities. Each Westfield Centre across Australia partners with a local disability service provider to help improve the quality of life for children with disabilities their families.

Get inspired

Yooralla Narre Warren Central Children's Centre in the City of Casey provides support and programs for children from birth to school age and their families. Yooralla shares an understanding of the families' challenges, and recognises the importance of the inclusion of every child within their community. It provides an environment which encourages the acceptance of difference.

Yooralla's programs include specialist supported playgroups, parent support groups for parents with children with additional needs, groups for dads as well as groups for children who have siblings with disabilities.

As one parent remarks: "Where would we be without the specialist staff to hold our child's hand? There have been so many firsts at Yooralla. Our child's first step, first word, and the first time they told us they loved us. It's the reward, the smile, the sense of achievement, and the pride we feel, and encouraging our child to develop at their own pace. We are always supported and encouraged by the staff in this amazing journey of discovery. Yooralla has shared our child's triumphs and tears, and helped to still our fears as parents during times when we have felt we were not up to the task."
