I’m just going to put this out there, shame on the fashion industry moguls of the 90’s that dictated androgyny was in and shunned the simple dress as a wardrobe staple. At some point, the dress went from being considered the prominent item in a woman’s wardrobe to a style that was “dressy” and something to bring out for “special occasions”. So thank goodness for the Noughties resurgence of the dress. And ladies, this season, we can continue to rejoice in the rebirth of feminine fashion with dresses of all cuts and styles.
I’m talking mini and maxi, one-shouldered, strapless and elbow- length sleeves, cinched-waist, kaftans and draped, Grecian styles and shift dresses, basically if it’s a dress, it’s in*.
Plus a quality dress stretches your wardrobe budget because one dress can look like five different outfits by simply mixing up your accessories. Wear ra-ra styles with waisted belts. Try your maxi with embellished sandals and a few long necklaces. Dress up your frock with an elegant peep toe or make it edgy with a chunky heel or strappy wedge. Above all, though, dress to impress!
*PS I do not accept responsibility for misinterpretation of the quote, “if it’s a dress- it’s in.” I do not, in any way, endorse 80’s-style taffeta, puffy dresses. *Shudder*
