Woah, hold on, don’t freak out. I know you saw the word, ‘stripes’ and instantly had foul images of thick, horizontal, weight-gaining stripes circa 1992. But don’t fret. The stripes of 2010 are chic, fun and far from unflattering. Dresses, shirts, singlets, swimwear and accessories are all striped up this season so hurry up and get on board.
There’s no escaping the nautical reference when it comes to stripes (see above, on board, geddit?), so when you don this print, know that it’s a bit of fun. Only wear it during the day and don’t wear with any other print- stripes are busy enough by themselves! Stick to neutral tones like grey, taupe, white and black and you can’t go wrong.
A striped scarf is a great way to inject some interest into your outfit, and a simple, striped cami or blouse goes a long way with jeans or a plain, high-waisted skirt. Team with wedges for some extra fun, but it is a good idea to steer clear of loafers and boat shoes… you don’t want to start attracting nicknames like, ‘Gilligan’ and ‘Popeye’.
