Designers paying tribute to the armed forces with military flare is certainly not a new trend in the world of fashion. But, this season’s new military chic statement takes the edge off utilitarian combat mode and opts for a more feminine approach.
Luxe finishes of leather, feathers, braiding and epaulettes give a feminine modernity to this otherwise, masculine trend. Floaty chiffons juxtapose Balmain-style bold-shoulders and structured military jackets, distressed jeans and shredded T-shirts.
Think functionality, think understatement, but think outside the box with this trend. Pair basic neutrals with an embellished set of shoulder pads to dress up a casual weekend look. Lift an army-green anorak out of the barracks with this season’s lace-up heels or tussle long locks and darken eyes and pair leather leggings (or mini if you’re game!) with oversized military shirts or simple T and cropped uniform jacket.
While military might be going 'chic' this spring, stick with basics in green, beige, grey or navy and rather than over-adopting the trend with camouflage patterns, get creative with your embellishments and accessories.
