Vintage T’s are in. Now don’t get excited I don’t mean that mambo shirt your mum bought you for your twelfth birthday and I definitely don’t mean anything that’s been in your wardrobe long enough its considered “lucky”. Vintage Ts, are not simply about age and although there are a huge range of styles, prints, and colours, to get it right takes a little bit of thought. But relax, because here’s a rundown on how to keep up with the old school.
Rock and Roll Vintage
Look for an iconic band image, classic music related graphics, or simply opt for a Rock and Roll theme like Rockabilly with its 50’s pin up girls, frangipanis and anchors. But it doesn’t have to have a print. Think faded red, worn lived-in black perhaps tie-dyed or stonewashed in a v-neck, Henley or plain round neck. Worn with black skinny or straight cut jeans, add a hat, a bowler, fedora, baggy beanie or trilby and you’ve got it nailed.
Graphic Print Vintage
Some tips to get this right; faded prints of a university logo, a cheesy phrase, a cult figure portrait, classic movie figures or something that resembles a souvenir T. But remember the one uniform factor that ties all these images together is a tongue in cheek irony. Wear with cargo pants or jeans during the day and at night try them under a blazer or cardigan with a dressier pair of indigo jeans and shoes.
Surf Vintage
A dead giveaway will be surfboards, an eighties motorbike babe, pelicans or an old school Hawaii souvenir T. Usually characterized by bright prints that look great with board shorts.
