Australia Day is a great time for getting together with your mates, picking up some yummy food and drinks and parking yourself on a nice, spongy stretch of grass (where you will remain for the next ten hours). Picnics are all about relaxing and having a laugh, and so when dressing for such a mood, don’t expend too much energy.
Remember, the aim of the event is to chill-ax, so you want to make sure that your outfit allows you to do this. No heels, no tight skirts that mean you can’t sit down cross-legged, and a big NO to not wearing a hat (come on, people, no-one likes to be caught red-faced).
Comfy denim shorts, a loose-fitting top and a pair of flat sandals or wedges, which won’t see you collapsing into the grass, are the way to go. Then simply throw on a necklace or bracelet, your cute bowler hat and a roomy shoulder or tote bag for your essentials and you’re ready to… stay! Now, sit yourself down on that picnic rug and revel in the ultimate Australian past-time: public holidays!
