It makes sense that during the darkest winter months we need to add a little light into our day, so thank you makeup gods for bringing us a burst of bright, iridescent sheen with the new metallic makeup.
Metallic makeup draws a fine line between shimmer, and sparkle with the difference coming down to the size of the sparkle. Big, I-can-see-your-shape sparkle, is best kept for disco dancing while the smaller, finely ground particles of shimmer that make a product reflective, pearl finish can be brushed on day and night for these sexy, sophisticated looks.
Everything from foundation to eyeliner and lip gloss have taken on a luminous glow that catches the light and looks, well, lovely. This pearly look comes straight from the catwalk where Caroline Herrera’s Autumn/Winter show had cheeks streaked with lashings of luster, while at Valentino the models where brushed with black, silver and bronze metallic shadows, and softly glowing skin.
It’s up to you how much metallic magic you bring into your look, you can keep it simple with a dab of silver or bronze highlighter on your cheekbones or layer metallic makeup onto your cheeks, eyes, lips or nails. Sydney makeup artist Nicola Burford says, “The easiest way to keep your makeup on trend, and to upgrade your current makeup, is to use illuminating products and layer them into your normal foundation and skincare regime.” Nicola suggests smoothing on primers with pearlised pigments under your foundation for a subtle, fresh sheen.
